Keeping Pace With Rapid Change
Today’s rapidly evolving technological means that companies need to be faster than light to stay ahead of software updates and cyber threats. Faster Than Light Computing (FTL) located at the Salmon Arm Innovation Centre is a Managed Service Provider (MSP) and has been providing IT expertise to small and medium businesses in the Shuswap since 2012.
Cory Booker, originally from Smithers, studied Computer Sciences at the University of Victoria where he met his wife. The two returned to Salmon Arm, her home community, and he began his career first as an employee with a local provider then as an owner of his own company. Given his local experience in IT, when the Innovation Centre was in the planning stages, Cory and his team’s expertise were called upon to assist. Once the work was complete, it just seemed like the perfect place to become a full time tenant.
The Innovation Centre is an ideal hub for FTL’s growing team of technicians that manage both software, and hardware for their clients’ IT. As Booker rightly points out, when records about customers or clients, patients, employees, prospects, and email correspondence is collected, protecting that information is important.
In addition, by having FTL as a trusted custodian of business data, software and certain hardware, businesses can focus on their own areas of expertise. By proactively monitoring IT systems, potential issues can be detected before they become a problem. If they do, FTL’s support is close at hand.
While some businesses rely on the cloud as their single IT solution, FTL offers a closer to home solution. In an era where data protection and technology are increasingly relied upon to manage day to day operations, closer to home is an important part of the FTL story.
Unlike larger urban centres, Salmon Arm’s smaller size, community spirit and family friendly atmosphere are key to building a strong team both at work and at home. “Salmon Arm is a great place to raise kids”, says Booker. Further “great things in business are never done by one person and together we can build great things.”
